Common Farm, Kempsey, Worcestershire was purchased by Will’s Grandad on 4th December 1921
Family run farm with William as the 3rd generation and trades as The Halford Partnership
The home farm is 120 acres, plus grazing rights on Kempsey Common, and additional rented grazing is taken throughout the year
Up until the early 1990’s the farm was run as mixed farm with a beef suckler herd and a small flock of sheep
With a herd of suckler cows on a relatively small acreage
With the change of livestock subsidies impacting the number of cows and ewes eligible for claims, a decision was made to sell the herd
In the mid 1990’s the beef suckler herd were sold, to concentrate on the sheep
A key turning point for the business was when all the stock was culled out to Foot & Mouth in 2001, and gave the opportunity for the family to re-assess the future.
